no cell phone use in school zone
Dear Harmony Grove School District Families,
It has come to my attention that we are having an increased amount of people using their cellphones while dropping off and picking up children at the school. Arkansas passed a law in 2011 stating that "A driver of a motor vehicle shall not use a handheld wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle while passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building. I will attach the law statue below with the definition.
27-51-1609
(a) Except as provided under subsection (b) of this section, a driver of a motor vehicle shall not use a handheld wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle when passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building.
(b) A driver of a motor vehicle who is passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building may use a handheld wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle for an emergency purpose.
(c) This section does not apply to law enforcement officers
Please follow this law to ensure our children’s safety. Our school traffic is nowhere near as bad as it has been in the past and I assure you I along with our Superintendent Heath Bennett work closely to try and get everyone in and out in a timely but safe manner.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter,
Deputy Amanda McClain #2626
Saline County Sheriff's Office
Harmony Grove School Resource Officer. "
