Week of January 11-15
Monday- Copy spelling words, introduction to Black Potatoes: The Story of the Great Irish Famine, Adjective Phrases
Tuesday- Black Potatoes- Section 1 Vocabulary, begin reading introduction and Chapter 1, Adverb phrases
Wednesday- Black Potatoes- Finish Chapter 1 and answer questions, Go over grammar homework, participles, writing traits notes
Thursday- Black Potatoes- begin Chapter 2, Participial phrases, Writing traits notes
Friday- Spelling test, finish Chapter 2 and answer questions, finish up participle and participial phrases.
Week of November 30-December 4
For the next two weeks we will be working on sentence writing. This will include clauses, the four types of sentences, and paragraph writing. We will also be working on non fiction multiple choice questions and open responses.
Monday- Independent and Subordinate Clauses PowerPoint, whole class practice, "The Microwave: Mostly a True Story" article with questions and open response.
Tuesday- Clauses practice worksheet, Common Core Workbook (text structures lesson)
Wednesday- Go over "The Microwave" questions and open response, Simple Sentences PowerPoint
Thursday- Compound Sentences PowerPoint, Simple or Compound Practice, "Grand Canyon Snapshots" article with questions and open response
Friday- Complex Sentences PowerPoint and practice, review "Grand Canyon" article questions and open response
Week of November 16-20
This week we will be identifying direct and indirect objects, predicate nominatives, and predicate adjectives. We will also be analyzing nonfiction articles and videos about several Thanksgiving topics.
Monday- Direct and Indirect Objects PowerPoint. We will be doing a worksheet as a class.
Tuesday- PG 72 in yellow workbook,Turkey Hatchery article - read and identify unknown words, predicate nominatives and predicate adjectives lesson.
Wednesday- PG 75-76 in yellow workbook, Turkey Farm and Processing Plant Video - compare/contrast to article from Tuesday.
Thursday- PG 80 in yellow workbook for review, My First Turkey video, explanatory paragraph writing
Friday- CH 4 Grammar Quiz, Thanksgiving activities
*Tests from Friday will be handed back on Tuesday. Test corrections will be due Friday.
